Fecal-oral transmission is possible since it has been demonstrated that the virus can survive in the stool for 4 days. The ability of this coronavirus to cause diarrhoea also aids in the transmission of the disease. It should be noted that normal stool has low pH as compared to stool from patients suffering from diarrhoea as a result of SARS. The high pH (low acidity) ensures the virus is able to survive and contaminate faeces for up to four days. Therefore the ability of the SARS virus to be spread from different routes namely in faeces, respiratory secretions and even in urine renders the coronavirus more advanced in its ability to spread very fast. Severity of the disease is as a result of being able to affect the whole respiratory system from the nose to the lungs. This is followed by high fever exceeding 38Â °C with acute breathlessness, coughing and sneezing. Acute breathlessness is as a result of the accumulation of fluids in the alveoli. The SARS virus rapidly replicates in the alveoli which is now filled with fluid and is further compressed by adjacent swollen tissues causing hypoxia. Th e patient succumbs to death due to lung failure (Puri, 2003). Therefore, the severity of SARS can be attributed to the events occurring in the lungs and specifically the alveoli causing an incomplete shut down of the breathing process. The virulence of the SARS virus ensures it spreads faster principally through deadly sputum droplets which occur through close personal contact. Severity of the disease is also attributed to its relatively short incubation period which can be as short as 2 days to a maximum of 2 weeks. In this review, important characteristics of the virus are highlighted such as the mode of transmission and pathogenesis which influences the severity of the disease. The principal mode of transmission which is airborne droplets consisting of the deadly viruses causes the SARS virus to be a potent killer coupled to its relatively short incubation period. Terrorism on September 11, 2001 Essay Terrorism is no vague concept but a modern danger and growing concern throughout the world. With the peak of violence seen on September 11, 2001 and the subsequent attacks experienced throughout the world following that attack, the United States awareness and reaction to terrorism and terrorist acts has changed. In an ideological war with no end in sight the way in which America fights the war on terror will help determine the eventual outcome. In his report, Unconquerable Nation, terrorism analyst Brian Michael Jenkins attempts to provide background and a deeper understanding of the threat faced by the United States in the coming years from al Qaeda and similar groups. This information teamed with advice and analysis gleaned from decades of terrorism research, lay out a plan for combating terrorism through deeper means and deeper understanding of the enemy. As Jenkins explains is his introductory chapter, a five-point philosophy of war must be employed not only by the government in the war on terror but also supported and carried by the average citizen. The five points are a necessity of knowing the enemy, mobilization of individual courage and commitment to the necessary good, psychological strength, an understanding and commitment to the longevity of the mission, and embracing â€Å"liberty as the source and sustenance of security† (2006, p. 5). Among some of the flaws in the current campaign is the failure to perform many of these points, chief among them is a lack of understanding of the enemy and the reality of the time necessary to defeat such a foe. Brian Michael Jenkins has been part of terrorism research and strategy from the beginning, when in 1972 the U. S. first began to take a look at terrorism as a distinct and increasingly dangerous risk (p. 6). As he notes, the Lod Airport massacre in Israel and the murder of Olympic athletes in Munich in 1972 led to the creation of the Cabinet Committee to Combat Terrorism (p. 7). However, terrorism has continued to evolve over the past several decades as the terrorist ideology has shifted from a strictly political standpoint into the arena of religious (p. 8). Conventionally defined as â€Å"a small, artificially defined segment of political violence† (Jenkins, 2006, p. 8), it has grown to be most visible in recent years as a mix of skewed religious ideologies and political unrest viewed through centuries of historical and theological unrest. In the 1980s the threat from terrorism grew outside the arena of simply a political vehicle. Where once terrorist acts were committed to gain visibility and understanding of the group and their demands, the attacks had now become more bloody and indiscriminate as the terrorists are not interested in image. Jenkins explains that, â€Å"today, many terrorists want a lot of people watching and a lot of people dead† (2006, p. 9). With the increase of senseless, casualty-heavy violence fears over what methods they will employ have increased. In the 1990s, after the collapse of the Soviet Union a general sense of fear began to permeate among international and political analysts (p. 146). The United States and other western countries began preparing for the worst, as predictions were made on nuclear proliferation, the diversion of the Soviet Union’s heavy arsenal to terrorist groups and unsympathetic countries (p. 147-148). However, none of these fears has yet come to tangible proof. While on 9/11, terrorists were able to deal the largest blow to the United States through conventional terrorist methods of attack, their bombs were neither nuclear or biological; their infiltration into society and subsequent hijacking were done using conventional means and bombs (p. 149). Primary among, Jenkins points is the understanding of al Qaeda and related jihadist groups in waging a successful campaign against terrorism. Terrorists today aren’t the same as traditional guerilla militias or the terrorists of the 1970s. â€Å"The enemies we face have changed fundamentally† (Jenkins, 2006, p. 14). Though the current U. S. led efforts to subdue and eradicate al Qaeda and related groups have been successful in driving them underground, they have not addressed the root of the terrorist discourse or stemmed recruitment or what Jenkins calls the political war (p. 14). In ignoring the current implications and ideology of al Qaeda and like-minded terrorists the U. S. is counteracting its own progress. The concept of jihad, the driving force behind al Qaeda, has been elevated, â€Å"from a struggle within one’s soul to an unlimited war against the West† (p. 23). Their grievances with the West, as espoused by Osama bin Laden and his brothers in arms, are both valid and unattainable. One of the root causes noted by bin Laden and his followers include the treatment of Palestine by Israel which the U. S. is seen as supporting through their support of Israel. This could and, according to Jenkins, should be addressed as it is a â€Å"noble† cause (p. 125). However, many of their grievances such as the presence of the U. S. in the Middle-East, Saudi Arabia, a saturation of Western culture as a destructive factor in Islam are unattainable goals. Jenkins implies and I agree, that the demands are unattainable by design and therefore supportive of a never-ending jihad. Those who believed that the war on terrorism would begin and end with the war in Iraq were only half right. While of strategic and ideological importance, Iraq has been both an overly dominant and distracting force in the overall war on terrorism. I agree with Jenkins assessment that the conflict will only reach another stage with the withdrawal from Iraq and whether viewed with defeat or victory the withdrawal will usher in a new stage in an ongoing conflict. I agree wholeheartedly with Jenkins assessment that, â€Å"we are still closer to the beginning then the end of what is likely to be a very long campaign† (p/ 176). In fighting a political war against al Qaeda and other jihadists, the U. S. would be most effective in trying to stem recruitment, prevent the spreading of their ideology by promoting alternatives and education on religion (p. 125). By using measures to halt recruitment and reeducate detainees, the U. S. would see more long term results. Many of the tactics used so far like the fall of the Taliban and closing of training camps in Afghanistan, thwarted attacks, and disrupted funding (pp. 27-29), while important do not dispel the group’s danger. As Jenkins explains, they have adapted to the new limitations and not knowing the actual size of the enemy it is difficult to assess the true danger and actual gains (p. 27). The jihadist’s real weapon against the U. S. is ideological, â€Å"Armed forces alone cannot win this war. The real battle is ideological† (Jenkins, 2006, p. 120). A loss of capital hasn’t prevented attacks since 9/11 or halted recruitment. In the environment created by the U. S. ’s continued presence in Iraq, the jihadists have attempted to seize an opportunity to use discontent to build their numbers. The U. S. has to fight this as well. The U. S. and other countries fighting the war on terrorism have to discredit al Qaeda’s message and to use their extremism against them. Jihadists’ beliefs are the minority, â€Å"to many Muslims, even those angered by U. S. policies, bin Laden is a crackpot† (p. 107). Still to some he speaks the truth and even changing the way in which believers are handled would be effective in the long run in defeating the threat. By trying to change the thinking and treatment of detainees, the U. S. and other governments can prevent future acts of terrorism. By working with willing defectors and possible converts, the U. S. could stem their flow of willing bodies, which is their greatest weapon, as Jenkins explains and I agree, â€Å"political warfare accepts no for as having irrevocably crossed a line† (p. 122). If the U. S. government and it’s allies write off the discontent of the recruitment population they run the risk of alienating a whole new generation of terrorist fighters. Jihad’s strongest weapon is its connection to the people; recruiters are able to recognize and weed out the committed and able to manipulate religious belief. Islam is used as a unifying factor by these terrorist groups, they see unity in the Muslim world as an outcome of jihad (p. 107). Increased modes of communication such as the internet and intense organization have allowed for a broader reach in the jihadist message. Their leaders are in for the long haul, â€Å"al Qaeda will not quit its leaders have no alternatives† (p. 38). By fighting the root causes of the movement and creating disillusionment and doubt in its followers, though more time intensive, the West will create a better future. As long as jihadist ideology is treated as outside the realm of reasonable understanding, it will not be defeated. As Jenkins pointedly explains, â€Å"their mindsets and their concepts of fighting are foreign to us, but they make sense in the context of their beliefs and circumstances† (p. 60). Through understanding, the war on terrorism will have its greatest victories. It can’t be treated or viewed like a conventional war, the enemy is not another country or a distinct leader but a mindset bred from circumstance and perverted ideals. So, first and foremost we must battle against the mindset. Countries like Yemen, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia have had success with religious counseling and debate with detainees (p. 130-131). Why doesn’t the U. S. do the same? Instead their have been indeterminate detainments, isolation, and endless interrogation (p. 132). Torture as a means of interrogation, something thought to be beneath American values has been not only practiced by defended. This is not the way to show and maintain our values in the face of a belief based insurgency. We have to learn from other countries examples and Jenkins proposes acceptance of even our imperfect allies, particularly Russia and Pakistan (p. 134). I agree with Jenkins in his assessment of realizing and accepting the risks and realities of this type of campaign is paramount in a publicly advocated and successful war (p. 153). War does not come without risk or with guaranteed successes, there will be discouragements as not every attack can be foreseen and prevented but conscientious persistence is a must. Benefits of the Holistic Approach to Care Zekiye Hamit M1: Review the benefits to the individuals and professional staff of taking a holistic approach to planning support. D1: Analyse reasons for working with professionals from more than one agency when planning support for individuals Introduction In this assignment, I will interview a health and social care professional practitioner to review the benefits to service users and practitioners of taking a holistic approach to planning support. I will create ten questions to ask the professional practitioner and evaluate her answers by providing the strengths and weaknesses of their responses. In addition, in this assignment, I will examine in depth the reasons for working in a multi-disciplinary team when planning support for service users. I interviewed 42 year old Lisa who is a manager at star primary school. Interview Questions: What types of service do you offer to service users? As an early years practitioner I work with children from the ages of three to five. I plan, prepare and carry out activities that meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage (EYFS). Essentially this consists of developing work schemes and lesson plans to encourage and inspire young children, while using resources and techniques to aid a stimulating environment. I help to enhance young children’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social development according to age appropriate milestones, while also providing a secure environment for young children to learn and develop. I build and maintain relationships with children and their families as well as working an in multi-disciplinary team to ensure the needs of each individual’s child are met. Lastly, I record independent observations of each child’s progress and reaching of particular millstones, in which enables me to communicate this with families of their child’s progress. How long have you been a health and social care practitioner? I have an early year’s practitioner for the past 11 years and have been promoted to the manager’s role for the past 6 years. What responsibilities do you have? As an early years practitioner my day to day responsibilities entail; inspiring and stimulating childrens learning skills providing pastoral care and support to young children and providing them with a safe environment to learn and develop developing and producing visual aids and teaching resources organising learning materials and resources and making imaginative use of resources supporting with the development of childrens personal/social and language abilities encouraging childrens skills and intellectual development through stories, songs, games, drawing, imaginative play etc developing childrens curiosity and knowledge working with others practitioners to plan and coordinate work both indoors and outdoors sharing knowledge with other professionals and children’s families observing, assessing and recording each childs progress attending in-service training making sure the health and safety of children and staff is maintained throughout activities, both inside and outside the setting through risk assessments keeping up to date with any changes in the curriculum and developments in early years practices How do you define holistic care? Essentially the holistic concept considers the whole person rather than just aspects for example, physical development. The different aspects that need to be considered include; physical, intellectual, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual. Do you use the holistic approach? As a manager I must ensure that I reinforce to the staff within the setting, the importance of providing holistic care to meet individual children’s needs. As regular staff meetings take place, we discuss a child’s case and ensure that we consider all aspects that can affect a child. These elements are; physical, intellectual, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual. Using the holistic approach to meet children’s individual needs enables service users to feel positive about the services offered and enables practitioners to fulfil their job role effectively. How do you apply this approach to your services? The planning of daily schedules is differentiated to meet the needs of all children. Early years care workers are highly likely to operate a key worker system in which each member of staff being responsible for a certain number of children or individual. These duties include taking notes specifically about the child/children and communicate these parents/family members and to add to the records. In addition, early year’s staff may use a wide range of activities to encourage learning and development. These activities are based on the government requirements which meet the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) of the National Curriculum, they include different themes to develop all stages of development which are physical, intellectual, emotional and social and link these to expected age milestones. Creative activities/themes encourage acquisition of knowledge and skills of children. What are the benefits of using the holistic approach? When professional staffs apply the holistic approach to their daily practice, there are a number of benefits. The holistic approach enables practitioners to understand and meet the requirements of service users, as they consider all elements of one’s health (physical, intellectual, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual). As a result, they will analyse care plans more efficiently. Practitioners will ask service users to develop their concerns, to enhance their understanding and meet their needs holistically as well as have a relationship based on trust. By practitioners having an understanding and having recognition of the holistic approach enables practitioners to put into practice and meet service user’s needs holistically. As a consequence, this promotes holistic care, reinforces that individuals differentiate from one another, reinforces and promotes laws, policies and codes of practice, enables staff to apply the care value base and provide effective outcomes wi thin their practice. Moreover, practitioners fulfil their job role by, meeting the requirements of the curriculum, laws, polices and codes of practice, developing their personal knowledge and skills (effective communication and team work skills), have a positive influence on service users growth and development. Having years of experience enables practitioners to feel more confident and comfortable when delivering services and helps them to develop and maintain good relationships with service user’s based on trust. When professional staffs apply the holistic approach to their daily practice, there are many benefits to the service users. By professional practitioners applying the holistic approach to their interaction with service users, an outcome service user’s feel empowered to make decisions as they feel they are being listened to. Therefore, close relationships based on trust and a general interest is developed between practitioners and service users, in which service users feel less vulnerable. Service users receive individualised care, have their needs met holistically, children will develop speech, language as well as the main developmental areas (physical, intellectual, emotional and social milestones). Furthermore, service users are more likely to have a positive experience when accessing the service provided, if a positive relationships is developed with the staff service users will feel more comfortable as they are in ‘experienced hands’. Also, service users feel more confident about asking for support if they feel that they will receive support in a non-judgmental and productive way. When service users receive holistic care, they have access to many opportunities and recourses available, which all contribute to developing their identity and individuality and results in a faster recovery as their individual needs are met holistically. How do you define a multi-disciplinary team? Multi-disciplinary teams refer to a number of professional practitioners from different agencies combining their skills and expertise to meet the needs of a service user. For example, early years practitioners may work with a speech therapist who treats speech defects and disorders, if I child is experiencing these symptoms within the nursery setting. How does working in a multidisciplinary team benefit service users? Professional practitioners combine their skills and expertise to meet the needs of service users, when service users require special needs or is experiencing difficulties, they will need to work with external agencies. For example, early years practitioners may work with a speech therapist who treats speech defects and disorders, if I child is experiencing these symptoms within the early years setting. What are the benefits for professional staff of using different professionals when providing holistic care to service users? There are a number of reasons for working with other professionals from more than one agency when planning support for service users. Essentially, the implementation of legislations and policies have increased and promoted multi-disciplinary teams within health and social care organisations. The aim of these laws and policies were to break down barriers faced within working practices. Statistics suggest that working in teams have decreased the overall stress than individuals working alone. Also, health and social care practitioners are less likely to leave their job, as they are supported by other professional staff within their team and essentially motivate them. Working in teams prevents duplication of roles and conflict of duties, as team work allows and promotes effective communication and in conciliation of effective job roles. Multi-disciplinary teams provide effective social support for all professional staff within the team, as they have the ability to support each other prac tically and emotionally during stressful and complex periods. Furthermore, multi-disciplinary teams enhance co-operation within the health and social care practices. As a result this promotes positive attitudes and co-operation when interacting with other staff and service users. Teams can safeguard professionals from negative effects that may occur in their working practice. When multi-disciplinary teams consist of diverse professional practitioners, this enhances the different views from each team member, that are required to be discussed and results in effective decisions to be taken to support service users needs at a higher quality. Multi-disciplinary teams that have clear aims, objectives, high levels of involvement, stresses on quality and support for alteration, give high quality patient care. Essentially, teams establish innovations when providing patient care. The feature of meetings, communication and combination processes within health care teams, adds to the beginning o f new and enhanced methods of providing patient care. Clear leadership i.e. managers role within teams add to effective team processes, to effective quality patient care, and to innovation. Conclusion Within health and social care there are a number of advantages and disadvantages to both professional practitioners and service users when taking a holistic approach to planning support. It is vital that health and social care practitioners are aware of the disadvantages and try their best to reduce these. This will ensure that both the practitioners feel positive about the service they offer and the service users feel positive about the service they have accessed. Furthermore, the reasons that I have analysed within this assignment therefore recognise and promote the benefits of working with a number of professionals from different agencies to support service users. Health and social care practices consist of health care teams to ensure the contribution to effectiveness and innovation and their daily practice delivery and add to the each members of the team’s well-being in a positive way. Anti Insanity Defense The insanity defense refers to that branch of the concept of insanity which defines the extent to which men accused of crimes may be relieved of criminal responsibility by virtue of mental disease. The terms of such a defense are to be found in the instructions presented by the trial judge to the jury at the close of a case. These instructions can be drawn from any of several rules used in the determination of mental illness. The final determination of mental illness rests solely on the jury who uses information drawn from the testimony of "expert" witnesses, usually professionals in the field of psychology. The net result of such a determination places an individual accordingly, be it placement in a mental facility, incarceration, or outright release. Due to these aforementioned factors, there are several problems raised by the existence of the insanity defense. Problems such as the actual possibility of determining mental illness, justifiable placement of judged "mentally ill" offenders, and the overall usefulness of such a defense. In all, I believe that these problems, as well as others which will be mentioned later, lead us to the conclusion that the insanity defense is useless and should be abolished entirely. Insanity is a legal, not a medical definition. Therefore, mental illness and insanity are not synonymous: only some mental illness constitutes insanity. Insanity, however, includes not only mental illness but also mental deficiencies. Due to this, there are problems in exactly how to apply a medical theory to a legal matter (Herman, 1983;128). The legal concepts of mental illness and insanity raise questions in a conflict between what are termed legalistic criminology and scientific criminology: mens rea, punishment v. treatment, responsibility, and prisons v. hospitals. This debate seesaws to and fro amidst a grey area between law and science. The major difficulty with a theory such as mental illness is that it is just that, a theory. To scientists theories are a way of life, but applied to the concept of law theories become somewhat dangerous. By applying a loose theory such as mental illness to law we are in essence throwing the proverbial "monkey wrench" into the wheels of justice. TESTING FOR INSANITY At the center of the legal use of insanity lies the mens rea. Every crime involves a physical act, or actus reus, and a mental act, or mens rea, the non-physical cause of behavior.

Causes of Lying

How many people can say that they have never lied? In all sincerity, there is no one that could confess that. â€Å"A lie is an untruth, a deviation, big or small, from what is known to be real. It is a false statement deliberately presented as being true, thus misrepresenting a situation or giving a totally wrong impression about something† (â€Å"Why people lie†). It’s a natural feeling to want to lie or omit the truth to get out of a difficult situation. Most of the time people are dishonest because they fear that telling the truth will get them in trouble. The main motives that cause people to lie are the attempts to avoid punishment, to seek attention, and to protect others feelings. One of the most common reasons that people â€Å"tweak† the truth is to avoid punishment. The consequences of our actions can sometimes be frightful and in order to cover up a certain incident we find it necessary to blame someone or something else. A good example would be telling a teacher the dog ate your homework. This person blamed the dog to get away with forgetting to do their worksheet; therefore, they avoided getting a zero for the assignment. If a guy sees an attractive woman walk by while he is on a date with his girlfriend, it is normal for him to want to get a better glance. At this point it is reasonable for his â€Å"sweetie† to question if he was staring and if so, why? Of course the boy was admiring the lovely lady’s beauty, but in order to avoid an argument or even a break up the young man simply explains how he only has eyes for his divine girlfriend. In order to stay out of trouble people must do what they have to stay in the clear. If that means another person has to face the cost of another peer’s action, well so be it. Another instance in which lying is quite popular is when individuals want to seek attention. Sometimes people just want to fit in and be accepted by their associates, but in order to do that they must provide false information. â€Å"It boils down to the shifting sands of the self and trying to look good both to ourselves and others, experts say† (Lloyd). Some people lie in order to make their life seem more interesting. Saying that you met a famous celebrity or exaggerating about a social outing can make any social life appear exciting. Most of us want to be the center of attention and in order to get there we must make up stories to capture our friends interest. When a person really likes someone they pretend to be a fan of everything that individual favors just to capture their attention. A lot of times people just want to be perfect and act as if they know everything. In the article â€Å"Why people lie† it says: A person applying for a job may claim proficiency in a certain field he's obviously not very good in because the job requirements state it as a prerequisite. Another such person may similarly claim expertise in a particular area for the sake of impressing his boss, or in hope of promotion. This is called lying to gain an advantage over other people. This is where someone wants to present themselves as a well rounded person to be more qualified for a position. Pretending to be some your not can only take someone so far until their busted. In some cases, what causes us to lie is the need protect other people’s feelings. Lying is usually intended to help ourselves out, but sometimes we do it to keep us from dragging others into our problems. The medical reports are in and it says you have been diagnosed with cancer. The easy thing to do is to tell friends and family about the illness to gain their support. Lately, the people who love you the most have been really stressed out with problems of their own. Since they are having such a difficult time, some may think it would be best to keep the illness a secret. When loved ones ask about the results of the exam you say everything is â€Å"okay†. Dragging others into things that they should not worry about isn’t necessary; it is better if we look after each other’s feelings. When Moms spend a whole day preparing a special meal for their family it sometimes doesn’t turn out so great, but we realize that they dedicated all their time into creating something everyone could enjoy, so we tell them the food was delicious. A common question asked by ladies is if a particular outfit makes them look fat. Unfortunately, Martin Luther king was assassinated on 4th of April 1968 when he was thirty nine years old. However, Martin Luther king left a legacy and is remembered on Martin Luther King Day every year. Significance of the Speech in the world today In the course of delivering his speech, Martin Luther King said, â€Å"I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation† (King speeches 1). This statement as he said has remained in our times and this is what has been happening all over the world. People are fighting for their freedom. He viewed it as an end to all oppression that was continuously being witnessed. This is a sign of new life of freedom and equality. Since he was a theologian, Martin Luther King addressed many injustices according to the Bible. Martin Luther King was enlightened and was tired of seeing blacks being exploited. He saw that the blacks were enslaved by the whites and yet they were helping them. He said, One hundred years later, the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely Island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. (Speech 1) Today many people are being exploited because of the ir race, tribe and even their origin. Many are living in poverty in the midst of the rich. Martin Luther King had spoken about this in his speech. Many countries have constitutions made up so as to bring about justice to the people. However, it is very unfortunate because many people are experiencing injustice in form of labor, race and tribe. Martin Luther King said that, â€Å"It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment† (Speech 1). This signifies that it was a matter that needed to be address ed in urgency; otherwise it would bring great destruction to the society at large. The same applies to the world today. If nations do not put away their differences it may lead to great losses to many people, for instance the mass killings which were witnessed in Rwanda, Yugoslavia and even currently the conflicts in the Middle East are consequences of injustices not being addressed urgently (United Human Rights Council 1). Martin Luther King said, that he had a dream, that every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low meaning that he hoped for a future with equality. This is believed to have become the reality of the dream when, black American Barack Obama became the president of America. Criticism of the Speech Although the speech is of great significance in our society today critics say that King was excessively rhetorical and that he did not provide a way to solve the many problems he addressed. Others say that some of his work in his doctoral disserta tion was plagiarized. This was followed by other responses that disagreed with the statement and said that it had nothing to do with his contribution in the civil rights movement (E-notes 1). Conclusion Martin Luther King’s Speech remains important in the modern society. It consists of well founded goals which if well addressed will take many countries up the ladder.
